624: The Debate Debacle & Our Broken Political Parties with Chris Butler & Justin Giboney
In this special episode, Kaitlyn and Skye are joined by the co-hosts of the Church Politics podcast, Justin Giboney and Chris Butler, to discuss the fallout from last week’s presidential debate. Will President Biden drop out? What does the Supreme Court’s ruling about presidential immunity mean for a possible second Trump term? And why have both political parties nominated candidates who are demonstrably incapable of fulfilling the presidential oath of office? It’s a wide-ranging conversation about the broken state of American politics and where Christians can find hope.

I was a christian a long time ago and always felt uneasy. Always wanted to cause no harm and embrace nature...now i see major flaws in spending time worshipping something that cannot be proven. And religion ignores objective fact which causes suffering. I can still be a better christian than most without believing in anything at all. I dont want pudding. I simply wish i had never existed and im here to help ease suffering across many life forms. If my pleasure means more will suffer, then i deserve to suffer. There is no walk with Jesus for me. Only trying to ignore the fear of death as it washes over me and until then i want those that did not ask to be here to find peace as they fade into infinite blackness of time. If my memory serves me right, I believe the bible states "Christ's Church" will not experience the Tribulation times (God's Wrath), Christ's Church will be "caught up" (Harpazo-Greek/Raptured-English) before such times. Christ's bride will not be subjected to Gods wrath. That's why the "pre-tribulation" Church is not mention in Revelation Tribulation events, they are already with Christ. This allows the Believers/Saints to be with Jesus when he returns for the second coming "on" earth. That said, during the actual Tribulation, with the help of the two witnesses sent by God, those who repent, accept Christ and adhere to Bible scripture (as written) will have a path to God's Kingdom on "The Day of the Lord" (the second coming). Ref: ua-cam.com/video/aLsMULMmlGE/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/EqLpZRGMyLE/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/RIS2OBLr5mo/v-deo.html Think about it. What is the sure-fire way to cause total civil chaos/unrest resulting in the largest global Tribulation of all time. In the twinkle of an eye, a huge disappearance of people all around the world. Then arrives the antichrist to "supposedly" save the day. Don’t miss the Rapture bus, it will be H🔥ll on earth for seven years.

I'm surprised at the panel's "both sides are bad" conjecture and Kaitlyn's dismissive statements about the future of democracy in this election. While Biden may be old, Trump is a national security threat because of the pending documents case and other reasons. His egregious crimes include inciting an insurrection. As a convicted felon, he would not be eligible for a security clearance. Even at the debate, he did not acknowledge he would accept the results of the election. Trump continually makes threats to jail his enemies. Trump aligns himself with dictators. The panel should read and discuss Project 2025 which reveals Trump's plan for governance.

Give up dreaming of things that you don’t like about Trump. You already made up your mind that you don’t like Trump. People need to realize they already made up their minds. This is simply the search to justify in their minds. It’s just data points. What we saw on June 27, the new January 6th Was an insurrection by dementia. Trump may lie on occasion or exaggerate things. But it pales in light of the entire Democratic Party lying to you. So again, you are only looking to justify your already made up mind. Therefore all facts that don’t line up with your opinion are dismissed. Because we don’t really like cognitive dissonance, but if you are voting for Biden, you are dishonest. He’s not fit to be President. June 27 was the clear moment. Not a cheap fake. Bernstein even commented that he’s made 15-20 errors of dementia the last year. Maybe Joe had one bad night? Well so did the Titanic and OJ. A vote for Biden is a vote to enjoy the Titanic and a vote for OJ.

Every time someone mentions the 1950s as a time we need to return to, I think: pregnancy was atrocious(shotgun weddings and domestic violence), teen culture was created (that's positive, but a contributing factor to teen pregnancy), women sought psychotropic drugs to manage with unhappiness, drug and alcohol abuse were high, inequalities were pervasive, the government controlled people's lives (reproductive and otherwise), public works did not work well everywhere (the stuff tax dollars pays for) the forgotten war, racism, discrimination, violence (bombings, lynchings, arson), Emitt Till, de jure segregation, de facto segregation, older generations thought rocknroll was the devil's music. I cringe every time people suggest returning to the 1950s or say those times were better. Better for who? Yeah not voting for anyone who makes those claims 😂

RFK Jr is certifiable. There isn't a serious 3rd party option. Regardless, Biden obviously wants to die in office after being in office his whole life. He needs the retirement party to end all retirement parties at the convention to announce the successor, or he's going the whole way, win or lose. If he loses to Trump he will be reviled but I just don't think that's going to happen. The polls are in the margin of error and will be "right" no matter who wins. Can we talk about this problem with men shaping their identities around their jobs - which are “passing them by”? In what way are jobs passing men by? Because women are now a major part of the workforce. Can we pause there for a moment? What, exactly, is the solution to some men being passed by for jobs because more women are working - is it to tell women they can’t work or is it to tell men that their identity isn’t in their job? Men are upset that it’s harder for MEN to find a job because WOMEN are working. Can we see how absurdly skewed and entitled that attitude is? Many women WANT to work, just as men do. So what is the solution? It’s not telling men their jobs are being taken by women. It’s teaching men how to live in the world that exists now.

You actually think the God who created all there is would be confused as to what a day means in context with the human minds he created? A day to the minds he created is 24 hours. God is not limited by time but the measurement is the same for him, a second is a second to God or you, in one second you as a person can do very little but your body generates more processes per second than every computer on Earth combined. God can have more thoughts in less than a second than every human who ever lived from the beginning of mankind to the end. God created everything in 6 literal days because he is not limited or constrained by time, to believe he took billions of years means you think he is limited by time. Science is wrong about many time related aspects of the universe because the conclusions are based on assumptions in order to support a presupposed paradigm.

At 9:30, Skye said that Trump was the same ol' Trump. And then proceeded to give the Democrat talking points like "He's belligerent. He uninformed. He lies constantly". You may have filtered your viewing of Trump that way throughout the debate. But to others, that description seems very fitting of Biden as Trump seemed very reserved, much more informed (and alive and coherent) than Biden, and what did Trump actually lie about? To me, I really don't care who wins the election as Jesus is King, and those of us who have entered His Kingdom love Him and obey His commands no matter whoever becomes President.

@@hgservices5572 ‭Ezekiel 16:49-50 NRSV‬ [49] "This was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy. [50] They were haughty, and did abominable things before me; therefore I removed them when I saw it." According to Ezekiel, Sodom was destroyed for a number of sins that are all too often ignored by conservative evangelicals. Homosexuality wasn't specifically referred to in the passage. At most, homosexuality can be read into being referred to by "abominable things", but this is an assumption that's not warranted by the context. Lots of things were said to be "abominable" in the Law, including not keeping to a kosher diet. That word isn't a synonym for homosexual. Also, just because something was described using that word, that doesn't mean that it's still sinful today. The story of Sodom and Gomorrah focused on the attempted gang rape of angelic visitors, an act of extreme violence and inhospitality. Rape is sinful and deplorable regardless of the sex or gender of those involved. If the men of Sodom were trying to break into Lot's house to rape his daughters, surely that wouldn't be seen as being innocent or good. Furthermore, Genesis 18 emphasized the faithfulness and hospitality of Abraham, making it an additional contrast with the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. Hospitality was of great importance in the Ancient Near Eastern culture, and is still very important in non Western cultures to this day. The literary and historical context of Genesis 19 points to the fact that homosexuality wasn't the sin that was being condemned. In fact, in using this passage to attack homosexuals, you're committing the very sin that the passage was written to condemn.

IMO trump might be an instrument of Gods wrath re the United States and rampant sin- we probably have punishment/consequences coming or we are protected by Gods mercy & love for 330M people by having a better candidate with better character to lead the country. I'm afraid Biden and his family might be more concerned about themselves than the country. RBG really screwed up by not retiring sooner when SCOTUS might have been better balanced

"Trust us. Don’t believe your eyes and ears.” … In February 2024, the New York Times columnist Paul Krugman lamented how “the hand-wringing over Biden’s age has overshadowed the real stakes in the 2024 election.” He reassured readers, “As anyone who has recently spent time with Biden (and I have) can tell you, he is in full possession of his faculties-completely lucid and with excellent grasp of detail.” This morning [June 2024], Mr. Krugman wrote, “I must very reluctantly join the chorus asking Biden to voluntarily step aside.… I fear that we need to recognize reality.”

Its time to take the keys of the car away from gramps and send him to the retirement home for good---but gramps doesn't want the keys of the car taken from him. He thinks he can still steer the ship and be leader of the free world into his late 80s! @@impalaman9707 let's just say that what you're saying about scare tactics is true. Scare tactics have been the bread and butter for the Republican party since at least Reagan ("welfare queens"). Yes, Reagan had the showmanship and charisma to sell fake solutions to problems that he made up or exaggerated, but both Bushes didn't. The modern day Republican party has quadrupled down on fear mongering. What does that say about them? That they know that they're not popular enough to win on their own merits? That they know that the only way they can win is to make up or exaggerate a bunch of problems and sell fake solutions all over again? All of this would explain why the Republican party has won exactly one popular vote since Bill Clinton became President. That's why they're so desperate to win and use Project 2025 to transform the government into an autocracy while they still can. Their policies are unpopular and becoming more and more unpopular with every younger generation. They would rather give up on the very concept of democracy than change their antiquated ways of thinking.
